The Carbon High FFA is sponsoring an evening of Donkey Basketball on Wednesday, April 11 inside the Carbon High Gymnasium. This event has become the main fundraiser each year to help raise fund to assist the FFA program.
“We’re going to be hosting our sixth annual Donkey Basketball Tournament. It starts at 6:15 pm the pre-show and at this time the donkeys will be outside getting ready and we’ll be prepping all the riders. We’re just going to start playing some fun music and having people start getting really excited and at 6:30 pm the real game will start,” said FFA Member, Jace Draper. There will be local dance companies performing during half-time and in between the scheduled games.
There will be teams scheduled for this year’s tournament. “So, our first group is going to be Carbon versus Emery and the second team is going to be USU-E Student body versus Carbon Student body and then we will take the two winners of those groups and do a championship,” stated Draper. The event is sure to be fun for the entire family, with lots of laughs, thrills, and spills.
Advance tickets are available for purchase at IFA located at 100 North or at BodyGlo Day Spa located at 69 West Main Street. The advance ticket price is $9.00 for adults, $6.00 for students in seventh to twelfth grade and children kindergarten through sixth grade will be $4.00. Tickets may be purchased at the door for a slight increase in price. Draper explains how the profits will be used, “So, all proceeds from this event are going to help fun our local scholarship to give to one deserving student. It also goes to help with registration for our upcoming competitions and to help with our community events.” The next competition for Carbon FFA students will be held on April 17 through the 18 for the State Career Development Event.
The students are also hosting an opportunity drawing to help fund their program’s expenses. The prizes include a half pig cut/wrapped donated by Keith Barker, tanning passes donated by Laska McCourt, a denim quilt from SSL Catering, a painting by Bonnie Vea, hat rack from Kirk McArthur and a professional nature photo donated by Johnny Dunn. Opportunity tickets will be $5.00 per ticket or five tickets for $20.00 and can be purchased from IFA or BodyGlo Day Spa.
