The Emery County Historical Society is hosting a Community Yard Sale Fundraiser on Saturday, April 21 at 10:00 am in the Huntington City Park on Center Street.
“We have the opportunity to digitize the years 1918 to 1940 of the Emery County Progress. But we have to raise funds in order to do that, so it’s going to be very exciting,” said Board Member, Lori Ann Larsen. “We have to raise a $1,000.00 and a grant will match that thousand, it’s going to cost $2,000.00 to get these issues digitized.” Organizers hope that they are able to earn all of the money that is needed at the community yard sale without having to host further fundraising events.
“We have been asking for donations if anyone has anything that they would like to donate to the yard sale. They can bring that to us Saturday morning, we’ll be down at the park at 8:00 am but we’re going to start the yard sale at 10:00 am,” stated Larsen. Community members that would like to make a donation but are unable to take them to the park on Saturday morning may contact Larsen to make arrangements for a drop-off time and location. Items can include clothes, toys, household items, furniture, anything that organizers are able to sell for a suggested donation.
Larsen was one of the researchers that assisted with the Coal Miners Memorial and spent many late-night hours at USU-Eastern Library looking through microfilm, she is currently working on a new project about the ranchers that lived down on the San Rafael in the late 1800s. “When you have to search microfilm, you have to go to a location, it takes a lot of time. So, if we can get these issues on the Emery County Progress digitized, people can do word searches in the comfort of their own home on their computer,” said Larsen. This will be beneficial for any individuals looking into their family history.
Any questions about donating items or make a monetary contribution may contact Lori Ann Larsen in the evenings at (435) 749-9367.
