Errors continued to plague the Emery Spartans in a 15-2 loss to the Richfield Wildcats Tuesday afternoon in Castle Dale.

After giving up three runs in the first inning the Spartans remained within striking distance for the majority of the game. Richfield took complete control by scoring 11 runs in the final three frames.

Cade Brazier was charged with the loss after throwing six full innings. Brazier finished with four strikeouts, while allowing 12 hits and nine earned runs. Jace Collard finished the final three outs, allowing three hits and one earned run.

Offensively the Spartans struggled to find consistency after being shutout for the first five frames. Emery erased the goose egg with a run in the sixth and added one more in the seventh.

Easton Gordon registered one RBI after finishing 1-3 with a single. Collard recorded the other RBI, recording a hit in his only plate appearance.

Tuesday’s loss puts Emery at 4-7 in region play, placing them in a tie with North Sanpete for fourth place. The Spartans are a half game ahead of Manti, and two wins better than San Juan, who both sit at the bottom of the standings.

Emery will return to the field on Friday for a non-region tilt against the North Sevier Wolves. Friday’s game will mark the final home contest of the 2018 season, and is scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m..
