A fourth place finish at the regular season finale was enough for the Carbon Lady Dinos to claim the Region 14 championship Wednesday afternoon in Roosevelt.

Entering the final meet with a 29-stroke lead, Carbon’s team score of 412 was just enough to hold on to the overall lead. Providence Hall delivered the top team score with a 386, followed by the host school Union’s 399. Delta finished third with a 408 and Juab ended one stroke behind Carbon with a 413.

“I am not happy about how we played today, but I am very proud of my girls for never giving up,” said head coach Kenji Otani following the meet. “That never quit attitude is what got us the win. If four girls quit on one shot each, we lose.”

Jessica Hansen led the way for Carbon with a team low 97. Sam King shot a 98, while sophomore Jordan Bianco finished with a 107. Aubrey Fausett recorded the team’s fourth score with a 110.

While the region had been a tight race for the championship throughout the year, Carbon took control with a dominating performance at their home course on April 19.

Individually King finished as Carbon’s top golfer for the year with a sixth place finish overall in the region’s final leaderboard. Fausett ended eighth and Bianco also secured a top-ten spot in ninth.

With the region season now complete the Lady Dinos will turn their attention to the State Championship Tournament, which will take place in Richfield at the Cove View Course on May 8 and 9.
