The Emery Spartans wrapped up the 2018 track and field season at the 3A State Championship Meet Friday and Saturday at Brigham Young University in Provo.
Led by sophomore Braiden Ivie, the Emery boy’s track and field team finished in ninth-place overall with 26 points. Grand claimed the team state title with 115.5 points, topping second place Delta by 28. Morgan, Richfield and Juab rounded out the top five in the field of 15 teams.
Ivie took second in both the 100 and 200-meter races, finishing behind Delta standout senior Dallin Draper in both instances. Ivie ran the 100-meters in 10.92 seconds, while Draper finished in 10.53 seconds. Draper later broke the state record by running the 200-meters in 21.29 seconds, compared to Ivie’s time of 21.86.
The Spartans received a boost in points as Mason Faimalo finished sixth in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 16.37. He later added more points to the team’s total with an eighth place performance in the high jump.
Senior Drake Hoffman finished sixth in the shot put, while Keldan Guymon ended seventh in the javelin.
Senior Ty Funk added two points to Emery’s total with a seventh place finish in the 800-meters.
The Emery Lady Spartans finished last in a field of 16 teams after gathering 8.6 points. Juab comfortably claimed the overall state champions after grabbing 107.6 points. Delta, Grand, Morgan and Richfield rounded out the top five overall.
Tayden Nielson finished sixth in the high jump to score four points for the Lady Spartans. McKenzie Cox scored the team’s other top performance, also finishing sixth in the Discus.
