The Helper Merchants opened the American Legion Baseball season with a double-header sweep over the Price Raptors Wednesday evening at Carlson-Colosimo Field in Price.
Despite falling in a 2-0 hole in the first contest of the night, Helper scored 15 unanswered runs to end the game in six innings. The majority of the damage was done in the fifth and sixth frames as the Merchants tallied 11 runs.
Game two played out in a similar fashion as Price took an early 1-0 lead. Helper scored the game’s next eight runs to take a commanding lead. The game was called after the third inning due to darkness, ending the tilt in favor of Helper 8-1.
Helper now sits at the top of the Southern Division standings at 2-0, while Price moves to the bottom at 0-2. Helper and Price share the division with Dixie, Springville, St. George and West Lake.
Wednesday’s double-header was the first for Price since returning from a weekend tournament in Colorado. Now six games into the season Price sits at 1-5 overall.
The legion season will continue for Helper as the team travels to Burley, Idaho for four games in three days. The team will first meet Minco Thursday night at 9:00 p.m..
Friday Helper will play twice as they take on Burley at 4:00 and Blackfoot immediately after. The weekend tournament will come to a close on Saturday against Jerome.
Price will take the next two days off before returning for more double-header action on Saturday. The Raptors will travel out of the area to face Skyridge and Dixie.
