Four Carbon High School student-athletes recently signed letters of intent to continue their athletic career at the collegiate level beginning in the 2018-19 school year.
McKenna Pendergrass will play softball at Colby Community College in Kansas. Pendergrass was one of six Carbon softball players recognized for their on field contributions in 2018. Batting .481 during the season, she tallied 37 hits, 31 RBIs and 30 runs to earn an All-State Second Team selection
Kelsey Sorenson will move on to Big Bend Community College in Washington to play basketball. Tabbed as a do it all player for Carbon, Sorenson averaged eight rebounds, three assists and three steals throughout her senior campaign, which ended with an All-State First Team selection. The 5’10” guard/forward also led the team in scoring with 14.1 points per contest.
Cody Lowe has signed on to play baseball at USU Eastern. During a standout senior season Lowe led the Carbon baseball team with a .510 batting average, improving from a .368 average as a junior. During the 2018 season he accumulated 18 doubles, six triples and 40 RBIs. As a pitcher Lowe finished with a record of 7-1 and ended with a 1.71 ERA.
Golf standout Ryker Smith will move on to compete at Southern Utah University. A three-time All-State First Team selection, Smith was a staple of the Carbon High School golf program over the last three season. During his senior campaign he helped the Dinos finish third overall at the State Championship Tournament in October.
