The Emery Spartans opened the 2018 golf season with a fifth place finish at the Cove View Golf Course in Richfield Wednesday afternoon.

Diving right into region play the Spartans ended with a final team score of 362, finishing 13 strokes behind fourth place North Sanpete. Richfield walked away with the top team performance with a final score of 316. Manti and Grand rounded out the top three.

Oakley Toomer’s 80 led the way for Emery in the season opener. Shaidyn Killpack delivered the second score with a 90. Devan Guymon’s 93 and Taylor Lindsey’s 99 closed out the team’s top four scores. Logan Healey (104), Kavery Killpack (117), Wade Huggard (119) and Tayven Guymon (129) rounded out the group of competitors representing Emery.

Emery will continue the golf season next Wednesday with a trip to Moab for a meet hosted by the Grand Red Devils. The lone home meet will take place the following week at Millsite.
