Former Utah Jazz point guard David Stockton made an appearance at the BDAC on the campus of USU Eastern Tuesday afternoon, giving local youth instruction on the game of basketball. The free clinic ran in conjunction with Carbon County Recreation’s Junior Jazz program.
Stockton, son of Hall of Fame point guard John Stockton, worked on fundamentals and simulated pick up games with over 30 kids in attendance. After multiple drills and games Stockton posed for pictures and signed autographs for each child in attendance.
“I grew up in Salt Lake, but never got to come to these areas,” said Stockton following the clinic. “It’s really nice to get see the rest of the state and help out some kids while promoting basketball.”
Stockton, who finished the 2018 season as a member of the Jazz, will play for Medi Bayreuth in Germany for the upcoming season. Stockton had a non-guaranteed contract for the 2018-19 season, which the Jazz chose not to guarantee.
“I said I was going to do these tours before I knew what I was doing for next season,” Stockton said. “I really wanted to do this, so I’m glad they still allowed do it, and I’m happy to be playing in Germany in the next couple of weeks.”
After finishing at the BDAC in Price, Stockton traveled to Emery High School for a stop at the Spartan Center.
Before joining the Jazz in 2018 Stockton also played for the Sacramento Kings, Cedevita Zagreb and the New Zealand Breakers. He was also named to the NBA D-League All-Rookie Second Team while playing for the Reno Bighorns in 2015.
