The Emery Lady Spartans earned a straight-sets victory over the Carbon Lady Dinos in the 2018 volleyball season opener Wednesday night at Carbon High School.
Emery squeaked by Carbon in each of the three sets in the only meeting of the season between the two squads. Holding onto leads late throughout the night, the Lady Spartans made the final push to record a 26-24, 25-23 and 27-25 sweep.
Led once again by head coach Kris Bell, Emery has now defeated Carbon five straight times on the volleyball court. The Lady Spartans will continue the pre-season slate with a trip to St. George for a weekend tournament Friday and Saturday.
Wednesday’s opener was the first game at the helm for Carbon coach Teresa Mower. While happy with her team’s fight throughout the night, Mower see’s plenty of room for improvement.
“I’m obviously disappointed in the loss, and disappointed with how some of our girls played,” said Mower. “I am excited that they have a lot of heart, and still would fight and come back from a big deficit.”
Carbon will also continue the pre-season schedule with a trip to St. George Friday and Saturday. The next home game will take place Sept. 4 against Maeser Prep.
