Emery County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch Center received a call on Wednesday morning from a passerby reporting a truck was down a deep ravine off I-70 near the junction with SR10. The location of the accident was part of Sevier (SEVERE) County so immediately ECSO notified the Sevier County Dispatch Center where they requested that officials from Emery also respond to the accident.

Upon arriving at the accident scene, it was found that there were two men in the truck that had rolled near the top of the I-70 eastbound on-ramp. This was due to the muddy, steep terrain which required rope rescue in order to bring each of the men to the top to an awaiting ambulance. Both men were evaluated by EMTs at the scene and it did not appear that either of the men had life-threatening injuries. They were then transported by ambulance to Castleview Hospital in Price for further evaluation.

Agencies that were involved in this emergency rescue were Utah Highway Patrol, Sevier County Sheriff’s Office and Emergency Management, Sevier County SAR, Emery County Sheriff’s Office and Emergency Management, Emery County SAR, Emery Ambulance, Utah DNR and Utah DEM. A lot of these responders had trained together prior to this accident and shows what a good example of how multiple agencies can work together for a positive outcome. UHP is investigating the accident. Both men were wearing seat belts, which undoubtedly saved them from more serious injury or death. This an important reminder to always buckle up.
