Alice Mae Griffin Shorts, age 93, laid her hands down for a rest, and left this earth to start a new chapter in her life.
Words cannot express what she meant to us and how much she shared in our lives for so many years.
She was born to a fun, loving family on May 14, 1925 in Newton, Utah to Roland A. Griffin and Alice (Anderson). She loved Cache County and shared many memories of her home town and growing up years. Her siblings consisted of brothers, Harlow, Wallace, Michael, Doug, Terry and sister, Phyllis.
Alice Mae met Mark L. Shorts, during WW 2, at Fort Douglas where she worked at the PX and he was a soldier. They were married June 19, 1945 in Salt Lake City. They were later sealed in the Logan Temple on July 2, 1947. Mark moved her to Wellington, promising a short stay and they never left. She learned to love Wellington and the people and made Wellington her home.
Dad passed away Oct. 31, 1998 and she waited for him for 20 years. Finally on Oct. 31, 2018 he joined her and took her home. They are now eternally together.
Mom had several passions and talents, which she shared with so many. Her hands, young once, raised Elynn, Kent and Doug and all their friends. Her hands served her community, wrote and acted in plays, skits and talks. She learned, loved, taught and served in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. We all know how strong her testimony was and how she loved the temple. We should never forget the example she set for all of us. We all heard her “PEACEMAKER” talks (some had to hear it more than once.) She was a special leader with the youth in church and 4H.
Mom loved and spoiled her grand and great grandkids. Many books and stories she read to them. Her hands played with them and taught them all. Her hands sewed anything they asked for. Her dress’s and costumes for them were so special and well worn. She shared the JAZZ games with them during the “Stockton to Malone” days.
Her hands kept our family together on trips, like Cherry Hill, Warm springs, California, Disney, Ocean, Yellowstone, camping in their trailers, fishing and so much more.
She left us all when it was time, but she left a legacy we can be proud of. We should make her and dad proud by living up to their examples.
Thanks to the staff for the five special years at the Heirloom Inn, where she met new friends. This last few months she had the loving care of so many from the Heirloom, Hospice and Pinnacle and they were so good to her and she loved them all.
She leaves behind Elynn (Rodger) Branch, Kent (Mary) Shorts and Doug (Chris) Shorts and Sarena Shorts.
