Our Mom, grandmother, grandma-great, sister, aunt, friend, and great example, Pauline Marx Shorts returned to her heavenly home on November 14, 2018. Since May of 2015, Pauline made Heirloom Inn her home here in Price where she enjoyed the company of many lifelong friends and extended family members. Our family expresses heartfelt appreciation to Heirloom Inn and Symbii Home Health for the loving care they gave each day to our Mom. It seems most appropriate to also thank Mom for having two daughters that followed her example and have become just like her. Diane and Kathy are true examples of charity, the Pure Love of Christ. Their two, three and four daily visits to check on, comfort and love their Mom is an example to all. Mom will be eternally grateful for the caring, loving compassion she was shown by these two earthly, but heavenly angels.
Pauline was born the tenth of twelve children on July 2, 1926 in Clear Creek, Utah to Alvin LeRoy and Wayne Cloward Marx. She married Murray G. Shorts, June 1, 1945 in Salt Lake City, Utah – just five days before Dad left for the Philippine Islands as he was serving our country in World War II. They were sealed in the Manti Temple on June 1, 1951. They celebrated their 73rd wedding anniversary this past June.
Mom was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and loved serving others. She blessed many lives through various church callings. Quilting, delivering meals to those in need, and just being a listening friend to all was part of her nature and something she did every day. There are many people who will remember Mom because they received one of her beautiful handmade Christmas trees. She enjoyed fishing with her brothers, especially on the days when she “out-fished” the boys. One of her favorite experiences was volunteering as a Pink Lady at Castleview Hospital which she did for almost ten years. She has fond memories of working alongside her Pink Lady friends as they loved and served the people at Castleview. She is finally home and, above all else, she will enjoy being with her sisters as they get together for “Grandma’s Night” next Tuesday.
Pauline is survived by her husband, Murray, and their children; Kathryn Ann Sherman of Price; James (Jackie) Shorts of Price; Diane (Steve) Oberto of Helper; and David (Doreen) Shorts of Lawrence. She also leaves 15 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. One of Mom’s favorite possessions was a group of pictures of her pride and joy – her great-grandchildren. She will miss little hands on her cheeks and especially the words “I love you Grandma-Great”.
Pauline was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, Floyd, Jay, Clyde, Kenneth, Blain, Verdell and Earl Marx, her sisters, Lucile Marx, Ada Oakden, Eloise World and Maxine Powell; and son-in-law Bruce Sherman.
