Our loving mother, yia yia, sister, aunt and friend to many, Patricia Sue Goniotakis Frandsen, age 70, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family, November 20, 2018 at the University of Utah Hospital.
Patricia Sue Goniotakis was born March 19, 1948 in Dragerton, Utah to Steve E. and Sarah Francis Coggins Goniotakis. She was the first of three girls.
She was known as Patsy to her family and her East Carbon friends. Everyone else knows her as Pat, which is the name she preferred.
Patsy grew up in East Carbon where she was active in social, church, and school activities. She had countless friends including her aunts that were around the same age as her, and she always thought they were her sisters since they spent so much time together. That relationship continued on until the very last day.
Patsy graduated from East Carbon High in 1966 and continued her education at the College of Eastern Utah and the University of Utah where she graduated with a degree in Education.
On November 28, 1969 she married Jerry B. Frandsen and they left Utah and moved to Jackson Hole, Wyoming for a short time. From there they moved to Douglas, Arizona where she began her teaching career.
Pat and Jerry had two sons, Dustin born in April of 1978 and Chad born in January 1981. These two boys were the love of her life. The family then moved back to Carbon County in 1984 where Pat continued her teaching career at Castle Heights Elementary. Pat was not only a teacher to her own children, but to every student she taught. She made sure that every child had something to eat in the morning, buying cereal, muffins, fruit snacks out of her own pocket because she said a child needs to have breakfast in order to learn.
She and Jerry later divorced, but continued to remain friends with him and his extended family.
Pat was awarded Teacher of the Year multiple times during her career along with many other accolades.
She once again continued her education teaching during the day, driving to Provo for night school and back home. On August 13, 1998 she earned her degree in Master of Education in Educational Leadership from BYU. She was then hired by the Carbon County School District as the Special Education Director where she worked until her retirement in May of 2010. Pat’s retirement brought her many joys spending as much time as possible with her one and only granddaughter Riley. She traveled as much as she could going with her Beta Sisters on many trips. She was involved in many charitable, civic and social organizations and was a volunteer for Four Corners Mental Health. Spending time and birthdays with her family was something she cherished. She loved our Coggins Family reunions and was always up for a trip to Wendover. Patsy was a caring, compassionate, fun loving person. She would help any family or friend in need and to say she was a caregiver was an understatement. She was loved by anyone who knew her and she loved everyone she ever met.
Survived by her children, Dustin (Kelsey) Frandsen, Moab, Chad Frandsen, Salt Lake City; granddaughter, Riley Frandsen, Moab; sisters, Diane Doporto, Salt Lake City, Terri (Art) Salas, Spring Glen; many aunts, nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by her parents, Steve and Sue; step father, Warren Whitlock; in laws, Duane and Velma Frandsen.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the University of Utah Hospital CV/ICU unit for taking such good care of Patsy and our family.
