Representative Carl R Albrecht took time on Castle Country Radio’s Legislation Update to talk about a few of his sponsored House Bills.
“HB 110 is an amendment to my Rural Jobs Bill from last year which increases the cap that employers can apply for raising it from $25,000.00 to $250,000.00 that bill is in the Senate now and should be going to Senate Floor before long,” said Representative Albrecht. This bill modifies the maximum grant amount that the Governor’s Office of Economic Development may award to a business entity in a fiscal year as part of the Rural Employment Expansion Grant Program.
Another bill sponsored by Representative Albrecht is HB 220, Radioactive Waste Amendments which was assigned to him by leadership. “What will do is change a couple rules on radioactive waste amendment…waste that goes into the Energy Solutions yard out there at Clive, Utah; this will allow waste to be classified at the time that it goes in. It needs to be taken care of and stored well and Energy Solutions is about the number one firm in the country to do that,” stated Representative Albrecht. The bill will also allow for the director of the Division of Waste Management and Radiation Control to authorize alternate requirements for waste classification and characteristics that would allow an entity to accept certain waste at a specific site, in addition it will require notice to a legislative committee, plus direct the director to require a performance assessment under certain circumstances and make technical changes.
Representative Albrecht will make an appearance to the appropriation committee for funding towards the expansion of the local Career Technical Education courses. “I’ll be on the agenda tomorrow for Utah State for a $1.5 million to expand our Technical Education funding in Eastern Utah so I think that will benefit the folks on your side of the mountain,” explained Representative Albrecht. CTE classes are a wonderful option for individuals interested in vocational careers rather than a traditional four-year degree.
