The Utah Division of Wildlife Resources will be hosting a Turkey Hunting Clinic on Saturday, March 30 at 10:00 am to 12:00 pm. The free clinic is open to all ages and will be held at the DWR office at 319 North Carbonville Road.
“You know turkey hunting is one of those things that’s kind of a sign of spring. In Utah, we have two different turkey hunting seasons or opportunities. Usually during the month of April that’s kind of the limited entry turkey hunting season – that’s when turkeys are strutting, you know they are more vocal, they’re kind of more active and then in May that’s the general season turkey hunt, you can buy a permit over the counter and hunt for the entire month of May,” explained Conservation Outreach Manager, Morgan Jacobsen. Permits for the April season are available only through a drawing and the general season permits are available at www.wildlife.utah.gov
The clinic will include presentations by experienced turkey hunters on everything hunters will need to know to bag a gobbler. “In this kind of clinic, in this setting we give presentations on where to find turkeys – we have two different subspecies in Utah, how to tell a mature tom from a juvenile turkey or a hen – which is important to know, turkey habitat and you know their behavior, and of course what kind of equipment you will need – what’s the gear that will help you in the field, and then how to call in turkeys which is a really fun thing,” said Jacobsen. This clinic will cover tactics that will make hunters more proficient in the field this hunting season.
