The Southeastern Utah District Health Department (SEUDHD) is recognizing National Infant Immunization Week on April 27 through Mary 4 by sharing information about immunization with residents in the Castle Country area.
“It’s actually Infant Immunization Week which is a national week that is celebrated to bring attention to immunizing infants in particular. We have several awareness campaigns during the year, this one is geared towards infants in particular and its just to encourage people to get their babies vaccinated to prevent serious disease,” said PIO, Becky Colombo. This year marks the 25th Anniversary of Infant Immunization Week where local and state health departments work together to share the positive impact of vaccination on the lives of infants and children.
The SEUDHD has a program to help with the costs of vaccinations called the Vaccines for Children (VFC) program. “This is a federally funded program that provides vaccines at no cost for children who might not otherwise not be able to get them if they can’t afford it. The VFC program has helped increase childhood immunization coverages levels it encourages people to vaccinate their children by the age of two and vaccinating your children is the best way to protect them from 14 plus serious childhood diseases, these including the measles, mumps, pertussis and those kinds of things,” said Nursing Director, Sara Braby. This program is a perfect opportunity for uninsured families to get vaccines for their children. Vaccines are among the most successful and cost-effective public health tools available for preventing disease and death.
