The Carbon Dinos delivered sweeping first-place performances at the Eastern Utah Championship’s, regaining control of the traveling trophies Saturday afternoon in Blanding.

Competing against eight other schools, the Carbon boy’s team accumulated 187 points, easily defeating second-place Uintah’s total of 148. Grand, Monticello and San Juan rounded out the top five.

The story was similar on the girl’s side of the track as the Lady Dinos earned the top spot with a score of 211.5. Uintah was a distant second at 161.5, followed by Grand with 74. San Juan and Monticello completed the top five as eight schools competed.

Jacob Jewkes contributed to two of the Carbon boy’s five first-place finishes. Jewkes joined forces with Jaylon Dennis, Carson Frame and Jared Spendlove to claim first in the sprint medley. Jewkes later topped all in the 400 meters with a time of 54.54.

Spendlove continued to produce for the Dinos as he defeated the field in the 800 meters, finishing in 2:07.43. Carson Frame was also first in the long jump with a metric leap of 6.26.

Ryker Childs helped add points to the team’s final total as he finished first in the 110 meter hurdles. Ending with a time of 16.22, Childs topped second-place teammate Carson Frame’s time of 16.82.

The Lady Dinos mirrored the boy’s team with a first place performance in the sprint medley relay. Makenna Blanc, Paiten Thomas, Grace Broadbear and Lyndee Mower combined to take the top spot and set the stage for a terrific afternoon.

Mower later earned the No. 1 spot in the 100 meters with a time of 13.58. Broadbear then finished first in the 1600 meters, finishing in 5:59.22.

Emma Haddock helped deliver points in bunches for the Lady Dinos by finishing first in the 3200 meters. She later finished second to teammate Broadbear in the 1600 meters.

The Lady Dinos 4X100 team consisting of Thomas, Haylee Prescott, Eminie Elliot and Tacie Tapia also topped the competition, adding to the dominance the team displayed over the course of the meet.

With only three meets remaining in the 2019 season the Dinos will travel to the BYU Invitation on Friday and Saturday. The team will then compete in the regional finale against Juab on May 8 and 9 ahead of the state championship May 17.
