The Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary is seeking new members that have served on foreign soil to become new members of the organization. Recently, the number of members has decreased and it is such an important group that helps local Veterans that they are wanting to build their numbers.
“We’re the Auxiliary for the VFW, Veterans of Foreign Wars and its for anybody that has served on foreign land. I know there a lot of guys out there from Iraq, Afghanistan – you know we need some young blood. We have 44 members right now and 33 of them are older – back in the days it was a big thing and I’d like to see it bring it back up and help our Veterans locally,” said Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary Representative, Cathy Rummel. The VFW Auxiliary use to be for women only but it is now open to everyone. The group offers support to Veterans of Foreign Wars, serving veterans, active-duty service members and their families, and spreading patriotism nationwide.
It is quite easy to join the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary as Rummel explains, “You need to have what is called a DDT-14 and that’s like a release paper from the service and it has to show that you served on foreign land. Like I said again, anybody that has a brother, a sister, a mother, grandpa, grandma, that served can join us. I’d like to see more of the Carbon County getting involved with this. This is a good thing for our Veterans and they need our help and that’s what we’re here for.” The group hosts meeting on the second Friday of every month at 3:30 pm at the Elks Lodge located at 57 West Main Street in Price.
