The Bright Ideas! Emery County Jr Entrepreneurs is gearing up for another successful year of future business owners. This is a free program where children 8 to 17 years of age can learn how to start their own business. Last year there were 50 students who participated and officials hope to have more individuals join this summer. The program meets in the Swell Conference Room inside the county building located at 75 East Main Street in Castle Dale and it does include a lunch.

“We started the program just last summer, actually, really as part of Economic Development for the community. The tagline for the program is Investing in the Future of Emery County,” said Coordinator Amanda Leonard. “As you know a lot of our rural area future success depends on the current residents and our kids if they stick around after they graduate or if they go off to college and come back and so we wanted to start getting their brains thinking about possible opportunities to stick around and starting their own businesses.” Not only will students learn how to start a business, but they will set goals for themselves, along with designing a plan and execute it to become a successful entrepreneur. One of the perks that students get by being a part of the program is the opportunity to sell their product at the Emery County Fair on August 2 and August 3 in Castle Dale. To participate in the fair students must attend one of the following boots camps either on June 5 or June 26 both at 12:00 pm.

Although the program is still in its infant stage officials are excited to be able to incorporate this year some new workshops for the students. “We had a very generous sponsor this year give us enough money that we can add a couple of workshops and one of those workshops we’re going to focus on branding and we will help the kids with their logo design and they get to customize a shirt with their logo that they can wear to the event that they go to,” explained Leonard. The branding workshop will take place on July 10 and the other workshop will be Customer Service which will be held on July 17.
