Contractor crews will begin placing concrete for the West Price Connection Bridge in two phases beginning Friday, July 12th at 10 pm.
Due to the size of the bridge, half will be poured on July 12th with a second pour to take place Monday evening July 15th at 10 pm.
Placing concrete on a bridge requires extra measures. For example, the concrete cannot exceed 90 degrees during the pour. The hotter the temperature, the faster the concrete will set up, decreasing the workability of the concrete, i.e. (the quality risks go up when placing concrete in hotter temperatures). If concrete is placed during the day in July and temperatures rise to 90 degrees or more, it will fail to meet UDOT’s required specification and will result in decreased product lifespan.
Due to the time required for a bridge deck concrete placement this size (12 to 15 hours), nightwork is necessary to meet the required standards. All other concrete placement (approach / sleeper slabs, parapets, curbs, gutter and sidewalk) for the project will occur during daytime hours as they can be finished before the heat of the day.
Residents should expect some noise from the concrete pumps as well as the concrete trucks entering and exiting the staging areas.
Scheduled concrete placement…
* Phase 1: Friday, July 12 at 10 pm until completed on July 13
* Phase 2: Monday, July 15 at 10 pm until completed July 16
Our construction team will put measures in place to avoid as much inconvenience as possible:
* Keeping noise to a minimum.
* Turning off equipment when not in use.
* Ensuring night lighting is directed only at the pour areas.
Main Street under the bridge will be closed for the duration of the placement, and a detour will direct drivers and pedestrians to safe alternate routes. We remind you the bridge is impassable to vehicles and pedestrians and all access to the structure is strictly prohibited. Safety is always the highest priority on highway projects. Please follow posted detours.
