East Carbon City would like to invite everyone to come out for the annual Community Daze celebration taking place on Friday, July 13 and Saturday, July 14 at Sunnyside Park.
“Friday we’ve got the Miner’s Parking Lot Party kicking everything off at 3:00 pm. So that basically is a kind of like a carnival type thing, kind of focused on kids, all benefits from that will go to Bruin Point Elementary. They’ve got lots of fun stuff going on, lots of games, face painting,” said Event Representative, Jen Maestas (MAY-S-TUS). Guests can enjoy live entertainment by the Mountain Pacific Band, plus enjoy various food items such as mouthwatering pulled pork sandwiches, hot dogs off the grill, sweet cotton candy, popcorn and tasty snow cones.
At 6:00 pm head over to the Little League Field to enjoy the Color Daze Dance sponsored by Carbon Medical and The Helper Clinic. The event will have various bags of colored chalk that may be purchased for $1.00 each.
At 8:00 pm on both Friday and Saturday nights will be the Sunnyside Rodeo with kid’s pre-show activities starting as early as 6:30 pm. “People will want to show up kind of early, they’ll probably setting up around 6:00 pm but kids events start around 7:00 pm, you’ve got mutton bustin’, you’ve got lots of different things throughout the rodeo, there will be a chicken chase and lots of different things and the main event will start at 8:00 pm,” said Maestas. The rodeo is sponsored by Diamond H Rodeo and Grassy Trail Riding Club. Admission prices are $8.00 for adults and kids 6 and under are free.
“7:00 am on Saturday we’ve got breakfast in the park that’s going to be put on by the Wrestling Team from East Carbon Recreation – so you’ll definitely want to come out for that, no need to cook, just get up and come out and have some breakfast,” stated Maestas. Following breakfast, parade registration begins at 9:00 am, with the parade set to start at 10:00 am in front of Miner’s Trading Post and ending at the park. Any businesses and/or civic groups that would like to participate in the parade are to meet with the parade chairperson at Miner’s parking lot.
Following the parade, guests can enjoy many activities in the park, live entertainment bounce houses, numerous vendors featuring clothing, sun glasses, homemade crafts and don’t forget the delicious food items like barbeque pork sandwiches, hamburgers and Navajo Tacos.
The horseshoe tournament will start registration after the parade. The singles will be a single elimination tournament starting at 12:00 pm and will be capped at 20 individuals. The cost to participate is $10.00 per person. The doubles tournament will be double elimination and will immediately follow the singles and the cost to participate is $20.00 per team. Cash prizes will be awarded to the top three teams in both categories.
Community Daze wouldn’t be complete without the annual Bo Huff Car show that takes place on Saturday. The car show begins with registration at 8:00 am and all car clubs are invited to participate with any and all cars.
