The Carbon County Search & Rescue Demolition Derby that was held on August 10 was another huge success with 46 participating cars. This event is held every year as a fundraiser for the Search & Rescue Team where the proceeds are to help with their operational costs and expenses.

“You know one of the biggest derby’s we’ve ever had, I just want to thank everybody from all the sponsors that sponsored, if you noticed at the derby there were banners  inside those are sponsors from businesses, we want to thank every one of those businesses for sponsoring us,” stated Carbon County Sheriff Jeff Wood. “Of course, all the wonderful fans that came and cheered on their favorite drivers, the stands were packed, it was great, all the volunteers that are not Search & Rescue members and just want to thank the community for a tremendous amount of support and I hope everybody had fun.” Other volunteers include Rocky Mountain Home Care & Hospice, Miss Carbon County Royalty and the Carbon County Sheriff’s Posse. Officials will begin planning for the 2020 demolition derby this month where they will take information from this year’s event to make any additions or changes for next year’s event.

Schools in the local area will begin on Monday, August 19 which means there will be an increase in traffic before and after school. “School starts next week; let’s all be ready for that. You’ve got to keep an eye out for those kiddos because they are not watching for you, look for kids at the bus stops. Plan to leave a little early on Monday just for that reason because who knows what the school busses are going to be slowing people down, don’t’ get in a hurry give them plenty of room,” said Sheriff Wood. Drivers are reminded that its 20 miles per hour in a school zone and 25 in most neighborhoods.
