The Annual St. Anthony Catholic Carnival will be held at the Helper Civic Auditorium located at 22 South Main on Thursday, November 7 with dinner, then continue Friday, November 8 and Saturday, November 9 with dinner and all the other family fun activities.
The annual Turkey Dinner kicks the festivities off on Thursday, November 7. “This is all in the civic auditorium on Main Street in Helper. The Turkey Dinner starts at 4:00 pm, ends at 7:00 pm. We do have take out available if you would like. $12.00 for adults, $6.00 for kids under 12 and it’s all the best of Thanksgiving with not having to do any cleaning, any cooking or have all your relatives in your house,” said an event organizer, Erica Kardelis. The dinner is the only activity that is taking place on Thursday evening.
On Friday and Saturday evening the event will be full of opportunity games, silent auction, kids’ games, booths, face painting. Guests will be able to enjoy hot dogs, hamburgers, kielbasa and homemade goodies. “So for the first time we’re going to try and have street tacos in the downstairs kitchen for the entire time of the carnival Friday night,” said Kardelis. The doors will open at 6:30 pm on both nights.
Taking place on Saturday is the annual Mexican Dinner that is set to begin at 4:00 pm till 6:30 pm. “Then on Saturday night is when we have our Mexican Dinner that we have been doing for the past I would say three or four years, where its an enchilada dinner but once again we’re also going to have Via’s homemade tamales available for purchase,” stated Kardelis. The dinner will feature enchilada, rice and beans with a cost of $12.00 for adults and $6.00 for children under the age of 12 years old.
The event would not be possible without help from generous sponsors throughout the community. “I have to give by heartfelt thanks to all the business owners of this county. Their generosity is just amazing year after year. The quality of the things they give us. It’s dumbfounding how much they support my little church on Main Street in Helper and I really do appreciate it and all of our parishioners do,” said Kardelis. All the proceeds from the event go towards the church’s expenses and charitable donations.
