Gust G. Himonas was born in Price on June 29, 1939 to Athena Konakis Himonas and Constandinos “Gust” Himonas. He went peacefully and willingly to his Heavenly Father on April 2, 2020.

Gust attended Carbon High School where he played football and played the base horn in the marching band. He graduated from Utah State University in 1962 and worked in the field of electrical engineering in Southern California for ten years. During his time in Southern California, he met and married Vale McMenamy and they had 50 wonderful and exciting years together.

The urge to get back to the family ranch in Price caused him to forgo his engineering career. When, in 1972, he, in partnership with his brothers Mike Himonas and George Himonas purchased a herd of cows, which became Gust’s life project. He had a great attachment to the ranch, the cabin and the animals on the Tavaputs Plateau which kept him busy for 35 years. The ranch was a place where friends and family were always welcome and the friends became family and neighbors became close friends.

Gust was kind, generous and had a quick wit. He never turned down those who needed his help. He has many close friends from his time working in Southern California who have remained a steadfast support throughout his lifetime. His nieces, nephews, cousins, Godchildren, brothers and sisters-in-law have also been a continual source of support and joy.

Gust enjoyed reading, loved listening to music, and visiting with friends which were his main sources of entertainment after a ski accident (2013) which left him paralyzed. He had an amazing library supplied by friends and relatives who continually kept his book shelves stocked. Gust also had special friends who helped him get through his days with their visits: Jaeleigh and Jesse Madrid; Julian, and Beckett Naanes; Brynn, Titus and Talmage Terry, as well as Whitney Fegan, the surrogate daughter who gave him great joy.

A special thanks is due to his caregivers: Hieromonk Seraphim Johns, his spiritual support; Diane Dalpiaz, Amiee Gunter, and all the wonderful staff at Symbii Home Health and Hospice; Mike Terry, David Nelson and Peggy Bradshaw of Pro Rehab; and Dustin Webster, past employee of Castleview Hospital occupational therapy.

Survived by his loving wife, Vale Himonas; brothers, George Himonas, Nick (Joyce) Kontas, Frank (BoAnn) Kontas, many loving nieces and nephews; godsons, Gus Kalatzes, Eric Sorensen and Ryan Madrigal.

Preceded in death by his parents; step-father, Tony Kontas; brother, Mike Himonas; sisters-in- law, Chris and Stacy Himonas.
