This week’s Carbon School District weekly update shines light on Bruin Point Elementary where Principal Dina Wise was able to speak over the telephone with Castle Country Radio to share what the school has been up to.

Since March the school has been out on dismissal and has had to transition over to online learning since that time. “It’s just been amazing to watch how quickly the teachers have jumped right in figure out what they needed to do to ensure that learning is continuing, and it is,” said Principal Wise. The school administration just delivered their last round of student packets on Monday.

With students not occupying the school building, has given staff members an opportunity to get some upkeep done around the facility. “Our library has needed a good paint job for a while now and so we’ve patched the walls and got the library painted. Our Trust Funds plan we have written in to have a Reset Room for students who are struggling or a place for the counselor to really do some group activities with kids, some social and emotional learning, so we are moving our teacher resource room,” explained Principal Wise. This will give the school counselor some privacy when meeting with students.

Speaking of the library, the school’s librarian has obtained funding from a grant for brand new books. “The Utah State Library offered a grant and she wrote the grant and got approved. She had $3,000.00 to spend on new books for the library and they sent her a list that she had to select books from and we were fortunate to use a vendor that can find really good deals on books so we were able to get about twice as many books that we normally could have. So, we will have $3,000.00 worth of brand new books in the library,” stated Principal Wise. This will be a wonderful surprise for students next school year.

Many students and parents are probably wondering how they are going to return items back to school and pick up any personal items. “We want to give our students an opportunity to check-out with their teachers, to see their teachers to either come up to the school and say good-bye. So one of the options is we’ll put a table up at the teacher’s door and we’ll schedule them to come at different times,” said Principal Wise. Further details on how the school will conduct check-out will come at a later date or via the school’s Facebook page.
