Emery County native Cy Nelson kept his professional unbeaten record intact as he defeated Jordan Marriott by TKO 38 seconds into the opening round of the main event on Fierce Fighting Championship’s “Justice” Saturday night at the Carbon County Fairgrounds Event Center.

Improving his record to 3-0 in his young professional career, Nelson displayed his ability to receive and give standing up in the cage. The loss for Marriott was his fourth consecutive, dipping his record to 6-8.

An exchange between the two fighters just seconds into the fight marked Nelson above his right eye. Moments later Nelson sent Marriott reeling with a vicious right hand. Nelson capitalized by landing several more right and lefts as Marriott was against the cage invoking the stoppage.

The largely pro Nelson crowd erupted upon the referees stoppage, leading to Nelson jumping to the top of the cage to join in on the celebration.

Saturday’s event marked the second card under the promotion of Fierce Fighting Championship, owned by local instructor Cody Bunderson. The event featured 10 fights, with Nelson-Marriott being the only professional bout of the evening.

In another highly anticipated bout, local family physician Nicholas Hanson suffered a third round loss via submission to Cedar City’s Taylor O’Neill. After surviving a solid second round for Hanson, O’Neill used a choke to force his opponent into submission. The Drive Time Sports ringside scorecard had the fight even 19-19 going into the decisive round.
