Castle Country Radio was able to sit down with Price City Council Member, Layne Miller to discuss the last Culture Connection concert, a new entrance to the library and news about the city’s Main Street.
This summer the Culture Connection Concerts have been hosted virtually due to the COVID-19 pandemic and they’ve have been well received by the community. The last summer concert will take place on Thursday, August 20 with Los Hermanos de los Andes. City officials are looking at the idea of continuing Culture Connection at least once a month moving forward as Miller explains, “Here’s what we’re hoping to do, we’re hoping to continue to live stream from the Civic Auditorium at least once a month. We also work with Excellence in the Community, they are in Salt Lake, twice a week they do this, live streaming from the Gallivan Center and they have an archive of concerts that we can tap into.” This will give city officials an option to share different genres with the community by various singers and bands. Further details on the Culture Connection Concerts can be found on the city’s Facebook page.
The library has been working feverishly on organizing and opening up the basement to patrons as they have put in countless hours developing a unique area for children to enjoy. However, it is not handicap accessible at this time but soon will have an entrance installed on the west side of the building. “We have obtained a grant and in the next couple of weeks, we’re going to start building, start construction of a ramp on the outside, on the Peace Garden side of the library that will access the basement. It’s not just going to be handicap access into the library it will be another entrance into the library. We’re going to put up a little awning, and some signs, it will be an easy way to access the basement and an alternative access than the front door,” said Miller. Patrons are asked to be patient with the city as construction is taking place.
The Downtown Revitalization Committee has some great news that will benefit the downtown area of Price and it includes a helping hand from the Governor’s Office. “That’s the big key to this effort, you know Price City has tried this numerous times but it hasn’t gone very far but this time the State of Utah is behind it. They reorganized the Governor’s Office of Economic Development, GOED, and they wanted to focus on downtowns and they’ve selected Price City and Brigham City as the two downtowns they want to focus on. So you get all that financial backing, and expertise, and I think this is going to go places,” stated Miller. This is great news not only for the businesses on Main Street but for the entire community.
