The Emery Caring for Kids organization is in need of food donations to help feed students in the Emery County area. This is a program that is similar to the one in Carbon County but on a smaller scale. Castle Country Radio was able to speak over the telephone with Coordinator, Lindsey Oman about the organization.

“So Emery Caring for Kids basically is non-profit that puts together weekend kits for kids that maybe, like you said, need a little bit of extra to get through the weekend or maybe families are just struggling a little bit right now. So it just allow for the kids to have the little bit extra to get through the weekend,” said Oman. These food kits are put together by volunteers with items donated by the community.

Various items that are needed for the kits are so that kids can prepare them with ease. “The items that we use most are dinner items but they have to be things that younger children can prepare so Chef Boyardee cups, Kraft Mac n’ Cheese – any kind of mac n’ cheese cups; Top Ramen, we need snacks, they have to be individualized snacks and pre-packaged, fruit cups, apple sauces, breakfast bars, anything like that, that we can put in the kits,” said Oman. If you buy these types of items for your family purchasing a little extra to help a child in need is greatly appreciated.

The organization has several drop-off locations available in the county. “So we have a few drop-off locations Magnuson Lumber in Castle Dale, Farm Bureau in Castle Dale, JN Auto in Huntington, Desert Federal Credit Union in Huntington and Ferron, and Emery Aquatic Center in Castle Dale,” explained Oman. The drop offs can be done during normal business hours at each business.

Oman finished by recognizing the community, “It’s always good to give service and that’s one of the things I love most about this is our community is so amazing that we really hardly every have to actually go ourselves and purchase stuff for the week because we get so many great donations. Our numbers have just gotten bigger so it’s taking more each week.” This is a service that benefits those children that are in need and would not be possible without the help from the community.
