The Carbon Dinos have punched their ticket to the semi-finals of the 3A State Championship tournament, defeating the Juab Wasps Tuesday in Richfield at the Sevier Valley Center.
The Dinos needed four sets to finish off Juab a team they had faced two other times this season, with Carbon coming out on top in both contests.
In the first set the Dinos jumped out to an early lead and claimed victory 25-15, they would also take set two with almost an identical 25-16 score. And just when it looked like Carbon would come away with a three set sweep Juab came fighting back taking the third, 25-23. The Dinos would re-group and claim set four and victory in the match 25-20.
Katie Jones led the Dinos with 29 digs and Emma Christensen added 16. Christensen claimed 18 kills, Lyndee Mower collected nine and Makenna Blanc also contributed with 34 assists.
Up next for the Dinos is a meeting with the Morgan Trojans, they defeated North Sanpete in straight sets. Morgan is the No. 3 team in the RPI, and finished the regular season 15-7.
Going back to last season the Trojans are the team that ended the Dinos state championship run in the quarterfinals in straight sets.
The game against Morgan is set to begin at noon on Wednesday October 28th. If the Dinos win they will play again at 7 p.m. for the 3A State Championship, if they should lose they will play in the 3rd/4th place game at 2 p.m.
