Our beloved Maurine Peacock Dorman, devoted wife of J. Eldon Dorman, peacefully passed away on December 9, 2020 in Price, Utah at the age of 102.
The daughter of Warren S. and Alvira Mott Peacock, she was born in Price on March 26, 1918, the year of the Spanish Flu Epidemic. She has seen and witnessed much in her almost 103 years of life!
Maurine grew up in Price and graduated from Carbon High School in 1935. She lived her entire life in Price except for three years while in nurse’s training at Holy Cross Hospital in Salt Lake City, graduating in 1940.
After nurse’s training, Maurine went to work at the old hospital in Price, where she first met Dr. J. Eldon Dorman. They were married in 1943 in Las Vegas, Nevada. They began their life together in their home on Carbon Avenue where they raised three children, Jaime, Dory and Kathy. Maurine has also been a loving mother to Eldon’s daughter Marcia, from his first marriage.
Over the years, Maurine and Eldon had many happy adventures together on boating trips to Lake Powell, Jeep safaris in the desert and spending quality time at their beloved cabin on the Olsen Ranch in Joe’s Valley. Together, they took a trip of a lifetime to Australia. Eldon died on March 22, 2000. Maurine continued to live in her home until 2009 when she moved to the Heirloom Inn.
Maurine was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She spent countless hours in the kitchen preparing delicious meals and desserts for her family and friends. She enjoyed entertaining for Thanksgiving and Christmas and whenever company came. She was a talented seamstress and enjoyed needlework, reading, and playing bridge. She loved supporting her husband and children in everything they did and accomplished. She was truly “The Wind Beneath Our Wings.” Maurine had her share of heartache and sorrow in her life but will be remembered for her devotion, compassion, unconditional love, positive attitude, and resilience.
The family wishes to express appreciation to Shauna O’Brien and the caring and compassionate staff at the Heirloom Inn for the care she received while living there. We would also like to thank the CNS Hospice nurses and caregivers, as well as her niece Joyce Pierce and Joyce’s daughter Joelle Jones for their devotion to “Aunt Maurine.”
Maurine is survived by her children, Jaime (Linda) Dorman, Poway, CA, Dory Dorman, Sandy, UT, Kathy (Brent) Owens, Layton, UT, and Eldon’s daughter, Marcia Gallagher, Highlands Ranch, CO; and many grandchildren, great- grandchildren and great-great grandchildren who loved her dearly.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; siblings, Leora, Lenar, Arlien, Lloyd: stillborn baby daughter; her oldest granddaughter, Heather Dorman Bilhorn; and many of her dear friends.
