The Emery Spartans claimed their first ever team victory at the 3A Duels, topping nine other schools Wednesday afternoon in Richfield at the Sevier Valley Center.

Finishing with five unbeaten wrestlers throughout the day, the Spartans advanced to the championship round where they handily defeated the Carbon Dinos to claim the overall title.

Bryar Meccariello and Hayes Dalton continued to lead Emery with an impressive showing throughout the day. Kove Johansen, Braden Howard and Jarin Allen followed the lead with perfect 5-0 marks for the Emery A team.

While Emery shined for first place, the Carbon Dinos delivered a stellar performance as they finished second at the competition.

Bryce Judd ended as the top Carbon wrestler, finishing 5-0 throughout the tournament. Brax Tapia delivered another bright spot for the Dinos as he ended 4-1.

The 3A Duels marked the final competition in the 2020 calendar year for both schools. Emery will now shift its focus to a home meet Wednesday night against North Sevier. Carbon will host Richfield that same night.
