
A battle of Region 12 heavyweights ended in favor of the Grand Red Devils as they defeated the Carbon Dinos 85-79 Friday night in Moab.
Playing for sole possession of first place in the division, the two teams exchanged blows throughout an up and down battle. Trailing 16-13 at the end of the first quarter, the Dinos would lose each of the next three periods by one single point.
Noah Bradford helped pace the fast moving Carbon offense with a team-high 20 points. Preston Condie continued his consistent play with 19 points, while Caleb Winfree finished with 13.
Center Keenan Hatch was the fourth Carbon player to cross the double-digit plateau as he finish with 10 points. The bench scoring was handled by Jordan Fossat as he ended with nine. Merrick Morgan rounded out Carbon’s scoring with eight.
Earning their second consecutive win, the Red Devils were led by Moroni Seely-Roberts, who scored 28 points. Malachi Seely-Roberts chipped in with 17, doing most of his damage from beyond the three-point line. Rafe Saunders and Chance Arbon both finished with 11.
Friday’s loss moves Carbon to 10-4 overall and 3-1 in Region 12 play. The win improves Grand to 14-1 and 4-0 in division action, giving them a first place lead by one game.
Carbon will complete the first go-around of league play when they return to the court on Wednesday with a road trip to Richfield to meet the Wildcats. Both teams will enter with identical league records, meaning the winner will take over second place in the standings.
