The Carbon Dinos were unable to keep the momentum built in a fast start as they suffered their second region loss of the season in a 67-51 decision against the South Sevier Rams Friday night in Monroe.

Jumping out to an 8-0 lead in the opening quarter, the Dinos slowly let South Sevier climb back into the game. By half time the Rams had captured a 29-25 lead. The four-point advantage ballooned to double-digits entering the fourth quarter.

As a team the Dinos attempted just five free throws for the game, compared to 24 for South Sevier. The Rams finished plus-12 in free throws made and also converted four more three-point shots in the win.

Preston Condie pushed the Carbon offense as he finished with a team-best 15 points to go along with five rebounds and two assists. Caleb Winfree helped guide Carbon offensively as he ended with 13 points and two boards.

South Sevier’s Ridge Tebbs scored all 21 of his points in the second half to pace the Rams, who have now won two consecutive games after starting 0-4 in league play. Carter Peterson had a monster performance, scoring 17 points and gathering 15 boards. Riley Barney chipped in with 12 points.

Friday’s loss drops Carbon to 4-2 in Region 12 play, placing them in a tie with Richfield for second place. Both teams now trail Grand by one game as the Red Devils sit at 5-1.

Carbon will now prepare to meet Grand at home on Wednesday evening in a game that is a must win if the Dinos want to remain in contention for a region crown. Grand won the first meeting in a thriller 85-79 just eight days ago.
