The night of Tuesday, August 23 a fire was reported on top of Crandall Canyon. The Forest Service had a 20-person fire crew working nearby that was swiftly dispatched to the fire via helicopter.

The 20-man fire crew arrived on the scene where they worked rapidly by building a line around the fire, they were assisted by two helicopters with 120-gallon buckets to help get the fire under control and extinguished. The fire was burning under a power line, but the poles were not compromised during the fire.

The fire crew completed a line around the fire and declared it contained by Wednesday afternoon. They did remain on scene strengthening the line and worked on any hot spots that came up. The fire crew had the cleanup completed but choose to stay on the scene over night to ensure that no other hot spots would flare up.

Rocky Mountain Power is hoping to re-energize the power line on Thursday after an aerial inspection. The fire was contained to Forest Service lands and no structures were damaged.
