Get ready for one of biggest events held in the Castle Country area coming up on Sunday, April 11. It’s the 55th Annual Price Kiwanis Radio Auction where locals look forward to bidding on products and services from local merchants. Price Kiwanis Member, Nick Tatton stopped by Castle Country Radio to share all the details.
Traditionally the auction is held the first Sunday of April but because of the COVID pandemic last year it was held in August. “Last year when Corona hit and we weren’t able to do the auction the first part of April and we delayed it until June, then there were some other Corona restrictions and we delayed again till August. We were able to hold the radio auction, this community is great. The donors that provide products and services for us to sell. The customers that call in on the radio and buy – what a great community, they really rallied and really made it so that that money was able to be raised,” said Tatton. Although, last year’s event was rescheduled it still went on without a hitch and the Kiwanis Club was able to put that money to good use for children in the area.
The Kiwanis Club’s main focus is to give children a chance to grow, learn, experience and succeed. “We would like to say Kiwanis Children’s Charity and everything is geared at children/kids needs in the Carbon/Emery area. We’re real passionate about keeping the money we raise in this area. Serving the people of this area,” said Tatton. The proceeds from this yearly auction help the club fund the free Kid’s Day in the Park event, as well as the Sub for Santa program and more importantly, educational costs, such as assisting children in need of eyeglasses and hearing aids.
The auction takes place on Castle Country Radio stations, KOAL AM750, KARB 98.3FM and KRPX 95.3FM. “It’s a great day, it’s a fun day, it’s a long day. We show up here at the radio station early in the morning, get set up. We start taking phone calls about 9:00 am we go on the air. We auction everything off live on the air, all day long at random. Items go to the highest bidder; we sometimes have prizes for bidding high and things like that. The highest bidder gets the items and at the end of the day we try to get everybody to pay for what they bid on and get to put that money to use for those charitable needs for kids,” stated Tatton. The entire community can participate in the annual radio auction by calling in and placing bids on the services and products donated by local businesses and merchants. The items range from tools, restaurant certificates, beauty certificates, auto detailing, movie tickets, paintings and photography images, there is sure to be something that appeals to everyone.
If any individuals would like to be a part of the Kiwanis Club and would like to know more about the club may attend their weekly meetings on Thursday evening at 7:30 pm at the Carbon Country Club or contact any current club member.
