Coming off a 14-4 victory over Region 12 opponent Grand last week, the Emery Spartan baseball team looked to keep the momentum going when they faced the San Juan Broncos in Blanding on Tuesday. Playing defensive baseball throughout the game, the Spartans allowed just one run across seven innings taking the 5-1 win.
The Spartans are enjoying an 8-2 overall record and are currently winners of six of their last seven contests. Emery will now head into the bulk of their region schedule for the remainder of the season, although they do have non-region contests remaining as well.
The Spartans started the game scoring one run in the first and two in the second and added another two in the fourth, while holding the Broncos to one in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Trevin Wakefield earned the complete game for Emery giving up six hits and no earned runs. Wakefield would also strike out nine.
Offensively for the Spartans Jace Mangum would collect two hits and two RBIs in the win.
Next up is a home contest against San Juan on Friday April 2. Game time is set for 3:30.
The Spartans will then be on Spring Break until Tuesday the 13 when they will be back on the road to face South Sevier.
As far as their region schedule goes they have another game with South Sevier and then will play Carbon and Richfield twice before we reach the first round of the State Tournament on May 8.
