A mid-season meeting between two of the top ranked teams in 3A ended in favor of Juab as the Carbon Dinos came up short 6-1 Wednesday afternoon in Nephi.

Playing for the only time this week, the Dinos fell behind early as Juab posted three runs in the bottom of the second. The Wasps later extended their lead with another three run frame, this time in the fourth.

While Juab plated six runs in the contest only two were earned as the Dinos committed six errors in the game. Both teams experienced success on the mound as Carbon finished with just four hits and Juab five.

“I fully expect to win every game that we play with the group we have,” said manager Jeff Cisneros. “That’s a disappointing loss. We were playing the top ranked team in 3A and I think we are right there, we just didn’t play like it.”

Jordan Fossat pitched three complete innings as he allowed three hits, two earned runs and four strikeouts for the Dinos. Jordan Wright worked three innings in relief giving up two hits and no earned runs.

Juab received a powerful pitching performance from ace Dalin Ludlow as he recorded a complete game. Allowing four hits and one earned run, Ludlow struck out 12 Carbon batters as he picked up the win.

“The last couple of games the pitching staff has struggled to get ahead of batters and today we had nine walks,” Cisneros said. “So you pitch from behind and then commit six errors and struggle to hit the ball and this happens. Juab had no errors and hit the ball with runners on base.”

Keaton Rich was one of four Carbon players to log a hit as he finished 1-2 with a triple. Derick Robison, Jacob Vasquez and Cooper Schade all hit singles. The lone run for the Dinos came as Vasquez brought in Robison.

Now 8-4 overall the Dinos will take the remainder of the week off before returning to the field on Tuesday to meet the San Juan Broncos in Blanding. The two teams will meet again next Friday at Carbon
