Judith L. Evans, passed away peacefully at home, on April 8, 2021 in Green River, UT.
Judy was born on October 23, 1938 in Salt Lake City, UT to Arvid Joseph Larson and La Rue Larsen. Judy was the second of three children, with brothers Robert and Harold.
Judy’s musical talent was realized at an early age. She learned to play the piano, purchased by war bonds, at the age of 8, and then the organ at the age of 12. Judy traveled by bus from Sandy to the Salt Lake City Tabernacle for organ lessons taught by the Tabernacle organist. When asked which her favorite was to play, between the piano and the organ, Judy said the organ, because it was more difficult to play and she liked the challenge. Judy joyfully shared her talents, accompanying countless musical numbers, high school musicals, teaching piano and playing as the Ward Organist for 62 years. She held this calling until March 2021. Blaine and Judy often worked together, using their combined musical talents to bring Children’s choirs and Broadway musicals to the Green River community often being asked to have these choirs participate throughout the state of UT. Music played a tremendous part in both their lives.
Education was very important in her family. She graduated from Jordan High School and went on to receive her Bachelor Degree in Elementary Education from the University of Utah in just 3 years. While at the University, she met the love of her life, Blaine Floyd Evans in the Marching Band. They were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on August 7, 1958.
Shortly after graduating, Blaine and Judy moved to Green River, Utah in August 1959 and started a family. They were blessed with 5 children, Kenneth, Michael, Keith, David and Cheralyn. They loved spending time together; camping, hunting and fishing every summer.
Judy was a wonderful educator and teacher. She began her career as a Kindergarten teacher and elementary school secretary. She taught school over 30 years, sometimes teaching three generations of children from the same family. She loved reading books to her grandchildren and was always there to help them with anything they might need. She also served as a mentor teacher trainer during her career.
Judy held many callings as a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. These included Primary Song leader for 17 years, Ward Organist 62 years, Young Women’s President, Stake Young Women’s President, Relief Society President as well as serving as a temple worker at the Monticello Temple for 12 years.
Judy loved to plant flowers and grow a vegetable garden every year. She especially loved roses and received many red roses from her sweetheart, Blaine, over the years. Judy was well known for her Divinity, Swedish Pancakes and her famous Scones which were a camping staple. She was a talented seamstress, making clothes, beautiful dresses and quilts for her family. She loved to share her many talents with anyone. Her smile and laughter brightened any room.
Judy is survived by her husband, Blaine and their children, Kenneth (Jana) Evans, Las Vegas, NV; Michael (Kimberly) Evans, West Jordan, UT; Keith (Taffeny) Evans, West Jordan, UT; David Evans, Price, UT; and Cheralyn Evans, Green River, UT; 13 Grandchildren, Brandon, Caleb, Jordan, Connor, McKenzie, Austin, Trey, Jace, Whitney, Leland, Jessica, Jennifer, Joanna, and 6 great grandchildren.
