The Carbon Dinos scored seven runs in the top of the fifth inning to pull ahead for good in a 15-10 road win over the Richfield Wildcats Friday afternoon.
Despite scoring in each of the first four innings, the Dinos were faced with a 9-8 deficit entering the fifth frame. Wyatt Falk brought in two runs with a hard single to left field, which led to an offensive explosion before the inning came to an end.
Brayton Nielsen helped pace the Carbon offense as he finished 3-4 with three singles and four RBIs. Falk and Cooper Schade each brought in three runs as the Dinos accumulated 14 hits for the contest.
Only six of Richfield’s 10 runs were earned in Friday’s game. The Wildcats struggled to put the ball in play as they finished with just five hits. Patience at the plate gave them an opportunity to steal a win as they gathered 10 walks over the seven innings.
Rylan Hart was awarded the win on the mound for Carbon as he pitched one inning of relief work, allowing just one hit. Jacob Vasquez went two innings, striking out one batter and allowing just one hit. Jordan Wright and Jordan Fossat combined for three innings
Friday’s win gives Carbon a season-series sweep against Richfield and sole possession of first place in Region 12. Carbon and Richfield entered the two-game series tied at the top of the division with identical 4-0 records.
The Dinos will now shift their focus to a highly important series with the Emery Spartans. After splitting with the South Sevier Rams, Emery trails Carbon by just one game for the top spot in the division.
The first meeting of the week will take place Tuesday at Emery High School. The second will come Friday at Carbon. The first pitch is scheduled to be thrown both days at 3:30 p.m..
