Emery soccer traveled to Moab on Thursday to face the undefeated Grand County Red Devils in the final match of the regular season. Unable to generate any offense the Spartans lost the contest to Grand 4-0.
Coming off a 5-0 win over San Juan on Tuesday, the Spartans struggled to find the back of the net for the second time in their last three games. Grand came out firing in the first half, scoring three goals and would put one more between the pipes in the second.
Emery heads into the playoffs at 8-8 overall and 5-5 in Region 12 play. Alex Noriega led the Spartans with eight goals in the regular season, Jesus Ayulla collected five and Carsen Childs and Beau Cook each recorded three.
The RPI rankings are now locked until April 28 when the bracket for the 3A State Tournament will be released. Emery will begin tournament play on April 30, with the opening rounds taking place at home sites.
Due to the suspension of sports by the Utah High School Activities Association last year, there was not a season ending tournament. If you were to go back to 2019 the Spartans faced the Maesar Preparatory Academy Lions in opening round falling 2-1.
