The Lady Dinos started the 3A State Championship Tournament at home on Saturday. Facing the Richfield Wildcats, a team they had already beaten twice this year. Carbon used a big second inning and the defense did their job securing the 11-1 victory.

In Saturday’s game, Lyndsey Madrigal seemed to pick up where she left off, smacking a two run home run over the center field fence driving in Molly Horsley and putting the Dinos in the lead 2-1.  Madrigal is in the top 10 in the state in batting average, home runs and RBIs.

The Carbon bats would come alive in a six run second inning, where they really put the game away. They ran off Richfield starting pitcher Whitlee Christensen after one inning of work where she gave up eight earned runs on five hits. The next Wildcat to take the mound McKelle Syddall, came in to retire the side but not before allowing two more runs from the Dinos. Carbon scored three more times, one each in innings four, five and six.

Graycie Hansen went 3-of-3 at the plate scoring two runs and driving in one. Madrigal was 2-of-3 with four RBIs. Gianna Bruno and Stevie Oman also had multiple hits in the Dino win.

Defensively after allowing one run in the first inning, the Lady Dinos defense was dialed in behind starting pitcher Brooke Moosman, who earned the complete game victory giving up just three hits, all singles and one earned run.

The No.4 Dinos will take to the field again on Thursday May 13 in Spanish Fork when they face another familiar opponent, the No. 5 Grand Red Devils. These two teams split their region contests this season with each team winning on their home field. Game time is set for 10 a.m.

If Carbon wins they will play the winner of Morgan/Manti. The Dinos did not face Morgan this season. They did square off with Manti back in March losing in a heart breaker 9-8. If they lose the game with Grand they will face Delta in the one-loss bracket.
