The Carbon Track squad welcomed six other schools to Price on Wednesday and Thursday for the Region 12 championships. At the end of two days of competition the home team Carbon Dinos claimed the region crown on both the boys and girls side as they prepare to move on to the 3A State Championships.

For the boys Richfield would take the second spot followed by Emery, San Juan, Grand and South Sevier behind the first place Dinos.

Ryker Childs once again renewed his rivalry with Emery’s Trevin Brazier. The two would battle it out in three different events with Brazier getting the better of Childs but not by much. In the 110 meter hurdles, Childs finished in second place with a time of 15.10 just behind Brazier’s 14.98. Childs would claim second in the 300 hurdles turning in a time of 40.32 just short of Brazier’s 39.39, then in the 100, it was Childs coming in second just behind Brazier who cross the finish in 11.43. Childs also claimed first place in the long jump for the Dinos.

In the 400 meter Easton Humes would bring home a second place finish for the Dinos. Kobe Cruz has been putting up some good times in distances this year grabbed two third place finishes in both the 1600 and the 3200 meters as well as a fifth place in the 800.Pierce Bryner also grabbed fourth place in the 3200. Relays were another spot where Carbon earned points with a second place finish in both the sprint medley and the 4×400 and crossed the finish line in third in the 4×100.

The Dinos have had some good luck in field events this season as well. Caleb Winfree ended the day in the top spot in the high Jump and the second place spot in the long jump. Bowden Richardson threw for a first place finish in the javelin. Bradley Wood threw for second place in the shot put and finished fifth in the discus, Carson Shepard also finished in third in the discus.

The Carbon girls continued their dominance over all opponents claiming the top spot followed by Richfield, Emery, South Sevier, Grand and San Juan. The Lady Dinos claimed the their eighth top finish this season.

Distance races have been a huge point grab for the Dinos all season with a group of ladies who pace each other in every race it seems. In the 3200 meters Carbon would go spots one thru four as Beverly Lancaster, Sophia Taylor Erin Stromness and Ambree Jones would take over this race just as they have all season. Lancaster and Taylor went second and fifth in the 1600 as well and in the 800, Makenna Blanc took the second spot with Lancaster and Addie Lester taking third and fourth.

Carbon grabbed three first place finishes in the relays as well, taking the top spot in the sprint medley, the 4x 100 and the 4×400.

Shorter distances were another bright spot for the Dinos starting with the 100 meter, where Eminie Elliot, crossed the finish line with a time of 13.31 putting her in second place followed by her team mates Lyndee Mower, Lindsey Jespersen and Elizabeth Marshall. Haylee Prescott claimed a second place finish in the 200 meter, Paiten Thomas finished in fifth. Prescott also grabbed the top position in the high jump. Mia Crompton would run to a second place finish in the 400 turning in a time of 1:04.12. Elliot and Jespersen went three and four in the 110 meter hurdles and in the 300 meter hurdles Jespersen and Saydee Johnson went four and five.

Johnson would also come up big for Carbon in field events getting a second place finish in the long jump and a fifth place spot in the high jump. In the discus Eva Grimaldo and Kayla Lee threw for forth and fifth place. And Carbon claimed the fourth and fifth spots in the javelin.

Carbon will now head to the 3A State Championships next week May 21-22 at Davis High School.
