Price City would like to remind citizens of the Memorial Day graveyard decorating and cleaning guidelines. Community members who wish to start decorating for the Memorial Day holiday may start to do so now.
City officials urge citizens to not decorate using glass items. “Some of those things include a little porcelain figurine, glass beads, anything glass or ceramic. Anything like that it’s a, it’s not good, it’s a safety problem,” said Parks & Cemetery Supervisor, Brianna Welch. This could cause broken glass that people could step on and harm themselves.
Another item that folks need to be careful with are the Shepard hooks or anything metal sticking in the ground. “There’s a lot of people that use hangers, welding rods, tent stakes, stuff like that, if you are going to use that take it with you or don’t use it at all,” stated Welch. Those items when left unattended could fall over and do some serious damage to the lawnmowers that are performing maintenance.
To help navigate the traffic at the Price City Cemetery there will be some gate closures taking place beginning Friday, May 28. “At the Price City Cemetery our roads are narrow there so we close the gates that run along Veterans Lane on Friday at 1:00 pm. So all those gates will be closed. The north and south gates will be open so you can navigate in and out of there then but on Saturday morning at 5:00 am all of the gates at the Price City Cemetery will be locked,” explained Welch. The gates will remain closed/locked throughout the Memorial Day weekend holiday. The Price City Cemetery will be offering a shuttle service for residents who may need assistance. Cliffview Cemetery will have no gate closures.
Another important date to remember is the cleanup day when the city comes in and begins their cleanup work. “To remove your decorations do it by Sunday the 6th because on Monday the 7th at 7:00 am we will start to clean up, so please come get your decorations,” stated Welch.
