Beau Vea pitched a complete game allowing just five hits as the Helper Merchants topped Payson 9-2 on the road Monday night.

Vea fanned five batters and gave up two earned runs in a solid outing from the mound. The defense behind Vea also played top notch as they committed just one error in the field.

“Beau kept hitters off balance all game long,” said manager Dakota Cisneros after the win. “He started ahead in counts and threw his pitches. He got our defense many ground ball outs and lots of easy fly outs. I thought our catcher Jacob Vasquez called a great game from the dish as well.”

The standout defensive performance was complimented by a consistent bat on the offensive side of the plate. As a team Helper recorded 11 hits with three players logging multiple RBIs.

Rylan Hart continued his summer tear as he finished 3-4 with three singles, two RBIs and three runs. Dallen O’Neil also notched three hits as he brought in three runs and stole one base.

Jordan Fossat notched two singles and brought in two runs at the plate. Brayton Nielsen also had multiple hits as he finished 2-4 with two singles and one RBI.

“This was a game that we showed up and played focused baseball from start to finish,” said Cisneros. “I was very proud of our effort at the plate and in the field. This team is capable of wins like this when they have the energy we displayed.”

Now 5-2 in division play, the Merchants will take Wednesday off before returning to the field on Thursday against Viewmont. The 17U team will resume play Wednesday with a double-header against Price with the first game starting at 6:00 p.m..
