It’s time for another Price City update and Castle Country Radio was able to sit down with Mayor Michael Kourianos who spoke about fire restrictions, road construction and water usage.
The city is happy to report that there were no fire incidents over the Fourth of July holiday. “Our fire department, that is a volunteer fire department, they go out on the first call and then they stay at the station until the end of that night on this July 4. They weren’t dispatched at all, they were able to stay home with their families and that was a huge deal for us to see that the residents were abiding by the fire restrictions,” said Mayor Kourianos. City officials and law enforcement hope that residents will abide by the same fire restrictions for the July 24 holiday coming up in a few weeks.
Many residents have seen the numerous road projects around the city and they each are nearing completion. “So 300 East will probably be the end of August, first of September. 700 East they’re working on the handicap access points and the curb and gutter, that should be done probably by the end of this week and then will start making the grade and getting ready for asphalt there. Fourth Avenue same thing getting that road ready for grade, getting it ready, as soon as 700 East is ready, we’ll transport and do 700 East and Fourth Avenue,” stated Mayor Kourianos. The 300 East project has run into a few snags so that is why it’s going to take a bit longer to complete.
Water restrictions are still in place with no watering between the hours of 10:00 am and 6:00 pm. “We need to be talking about better ways of taking care of our water. We have a meeting with the school district, the college, Price City because we’re one of the bigger water users or all those entities are. We’re looking at what better ways to do things. I don’t know whether we are behind the eight ball or we’re getting ahead, I think we are because we are learning from each other, each entity has learned better ways of using water,” said Mayor Kourianos. The city appreciates all the efforts each resident is taking to help save water during this drought.
