The Swell River Fest in Green River will be taking place on Friday, August 6 and Saturday, August 7 with many events and activities scheduled to take place throughout the festival. Green River City Event Coordinator, Robin Hunt took time to visit over the telephone with Castle Country Radio to discuss all the details.
On Friday, August 6 the event organizers have designated it Family Day with many fun activities for families to enjoy. “So on our Family Day we plan on having a giant slip and slide, and rubber duckie race, the kids can really get involved in. We can thank our Green River Fire Department for that, they are going to help out with the giant slip and slide. We also want to do a guided John Wesley Powell River History Museum tour, just to give people an idea of what that museum is really about,” stated Hunt. There will also be an opportunity to watch birds along the river as there are many that flock around the river banks during this time of year.
“We also have Moab Boat House Field Trip with Roy Webb. So I don’t know a whole lot about it but I do know that we had a Moab Boat House that use to run the river frequently and it is now on land which is right here in Green River. So we’re going to have a little field trip about that, we can learn a little bit more for our history buffs out there,” said Hunt. This will take place at 6:30 pm and space is limited to 30 people only. Guests are encouraged to join everyone for dinner at Ray’s Tavern at 7:30 pm, followed by a free screening of Powell 150 at the Green River City Park on Main Street at 8:30 pm.
Saturday morning kicks off the River Float Fest activities. “So starting at 9:00 am we’re going to have a vendor fair, we don’t have a ton of vendors but they are all outdoor themed vendors coming. Everyone is encouraged to bring their own boat, kayak, floatie, whatever, we’re going to get on the river as much as we can. We’re going to have a little island party, out there in the middle of the river,” stated Hunt. There will be live entertainment on the Riverside Stage by the museum from 1:00 pm to 9:00 pm.
