
The Green River Pirate baseball team started their home campaign on Friday as they welcomed the Altamont Longhorns to town. Struggling to find offense in their first contest against Wayne, the Pirates woes continued only scoring two runs and falling to the Longhorns 12-2.
The action picked up in the third inning when Altamont would score the first runs of the game off of a single and an error taking a 2-0 lead into the fourth where the Longhorns would put up five runs.
Green River got themselves on the board in the bottom of the inning when Ryker Meadows would score on a passed ball, the Pirates would add one run in the fifth off another passed ball when Hoyt Hunt crossed the plate.
Altamont added four more in the sixth making the score 12-2 ending the contest.
The Pirates would scatter three hits through six innings from the bats of Meadows, Jay Mendez and Jarrett Guerrera.
On the mound a trio of Pirates handled the pitching duties. Meadows got the start going 3 1/3 giving up six runs (three earned) on two hits while striking out three. Guerrera came in to go two, surrendering four (three earned) on one hit and Antonio Macias finished up with two earned on one hit.
Up next for Green River is a date with rival Pinnacle on Tuesday at home. Game time will be at 3 p.m..
