The Lady Dinos headed back to the field to begin their 2021 season on Tuesday. On the road at Union, the Dinos needed overtime to get the job done, but came away with the 2-1 victory.

Carbon ended last season 11-6 overall and 7-3 in region. They lost their final match 6-1 to the eventual State Champion Morgan Trojans in the quarterfinals of the season ending tournament.

Both teams had their defense on display in the first half battling back and forth, but going into the locker room at the break scoreless.

In the second half the Cougars and Dinos would both find the back of the net, trading goals to tie things up at 1 each, a score that would hold till the end of regulation. Moving into  overtime, Carbon would close out the game, registering the only goal in the period.

For the Dinos, junior Kinley Cowdell and sophomore Amiah Timothy both scored to help Carbon earn their first win of the season.

Five seniors return this year for the Lady Dinos. Molly Banks, Atlee Madrid, Mielee Prettyman, Lexi Dart and Thalyn Lyman will bring their veteran leadership to the table as Carbon makes its way to the state tournament in October.

Up next for the Dinos  is a road trip to North Sanpete on Thursday.
