
The Lady Dino volleyball team traveled to St. George over the weekend playing six games in two days. Going into the weekend with an unblemished record the Dinos returned home sporting an 8-0 record and are preparing themselves for the region portion of their schedule.
With wins at the beginning of the season against Juab and Duchesne, the Dinos headed south to take on competition from that portion of the state.
Below is a short recap of all the games played:
August 27- Pine View – Win 3-1
Pine View is out of St. George playing in Region 10 in the 4A classification. Last year the two teams faced off with one another with an almost identical result, a 3-0 Carbon victory.
This year went four sets with Carbon still coming out on top 3-1.
The first set was close with Carbon taking the win 25-23. In the second set Carbon put a bit more distance between themselves and Pine View coming up with the 25-17 victory. Pine View stormed back in set three 25-23 and Carbon would close out the match 25-18 grabbing their first win of the weekend three sets to one.
August 27 – Millard – Win 3-1
Some times people feel that teams from smaller schools are a lower level of competition. Millard, a school from Fillmore that plays in 2A, gave Carbon all they wanted pushing them to four sets.
In set number one Carbon put forth a dominant performance winning 25-12, but that just woke them up as Millard came fighting back in the second set claiming a 27-26 win. The final two sets were close as well with the Dinos finishing them off 25-18 and 25-23.
August 27 – Spanish Fork – Win 3-1
In this match it was Carbon’s turn to jump up two classes when they faced the Dons of Spanish Fork.
In the first set the Dons came out firing winning 26-24. After that it was all Carbon as the Dinos would take the next three sets 25-20, 27-26 and 25-18 to close out the first day a perfect 3-0 moving into day two.
August 28 – Win- Kanab – 3-0
The Dinos came out Saturday morning ready to face the Kanab Cowboys. Kanab, a 2A school from Region 19, fought Carbon the whole match in a highly competitive opening to day two.
The Dinos would take a straight set victory 25-22, 25-18 and 25-23.
Sophmore Madi Orth had 17 kills in the match to go along with seven blocks and four digs. Janzie Jensen added 12 blocks to go with her seven kills and 11 digs and Lyndee Mower added 16 digs, six kills while Benett Peterson had 18 assists.
August 28 – Dixie – Win – 3-1
This match went back and forth through the first two and a half sets as the Dinos and the Flyers would exchange blows. In set number one the Dinos clawed their way to a 25-20 win. Set two would go to Dixie 25-20. The third set would be the tipping point as Carbon would regain their focus and claim a 25-16 win that would spill over to set four where the Dinos shut the door on them Flyers 25-11.
Sydney Orth led the Dinos with 13 kills, 11 digs and three assists. Madi Orth added 12 kills and 16 digs. Peterson would collect 24 assists.
August 28 – Hurricane – Win 3-1
In the final match of the weekend the Dinos faced the Hurricane Tigers. Sitting at a perfect 5-0 so far, the Dinos were eager to get down to business taking a first set win 25-13. once again Carbon struggled in set two falling to the Tigers 25-15. Carbon put it all together in sets three and four winning them 25-19 and 25-17.
Mower would gather 32 digs for Carbon and also collected 13 kills. Madi Orth had 27 kills and 15 kills, Jensen had 22 digs and Peterson added 22 assists to the stat sheet.
Carbon will be back on the court on Tuesday when they will face Union at home. Game time is set for 6:30.
